Wrinkle Filler

Plump & Hydrate from Within

As you age, your face experiences volume loss increasing the appearance of wrinkles. Starting at thirty years of age, you love the equivalent of one syringe of filler per year in your face. You lose fat and collagen while the muscles and skin become thinner. Wrinkle fillers, also called dermal fillers, are injectable treatments that restore your lost volume.

You will find that at New York Skin & Vein Center that the way we use wrinkle fillers restore the natural shape of your face. By supporting the natural fat pads in the face with small injections of volume, the natural feminine facial shape is maintained. The three main fat pads are the temples, cheeks, and lower mouth (marionette lines). Other areas that may require volume restoration include the hollows under the eyes, lips, nasal labial folds, jawline, and acne scars.

There are several options for replacing lost volume:

Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – are substances naturally found in your body, which are grown in a test tube and combined with Lidocaine. These include JUVÉDERM®, Restylane®, BELOTERO BALANCE®, and Revanesse® Versa™.

Poly-L-lactic Acid (Sculptra®) – is a stimulator substance that helps your skin rebuild its natural collagen. It is perfect for the woman who needs a lot of volume and wants the improvement to appear slowly over time.

Calcium hydroxylapatite (RADIESSE®) – is a naturally occurring substance that is denser and thicker than the other fillers and is typically used for deeper lines and wrinkles, especially on the cheeks.

Collagen and Polymethylmethacrylate (Bellafill®)– is a synthetic, biocompatible substance that takes the form of a “microsphere” – miniature beads – to provide long-term structure and firmness. It stimulates your own natural collagen over several years and is called “The 5 Year Filler” because 83% of patients who have received are satisfied after five years.

All of the fillers stimulate the body’s own production of collagen, helping to maintain the natural volume of your face. Studies indicate that over time, less filler is needed to accomplish the same results.

How Do Wrinkle Fillers Work?

Wrinkle fillers plump up your skin and fat pads of the face to restore your natural features to their youthful appearance. Fillers are injected into your skin with an ultrafine needle. Cannulas, which are blunt tiny tubes, are used for larger areas like cheeks. Dermal fillers support tissues and stimulate natural collagen by going on top of the bone to support the fat pad.

Am I a Good Candidate for Wrinkle Fillers?

Wrinkle fillers are safe and FDA-approved for men and women over the age of 21. Bellafill® is best for women in their 30s to 60s. People with a history of severe allergies (specifically to bovine collagen products and lidocaine), hypersensitivity, or anaphylaxis should mention this during your consultation.

How Long Does A Typical Treatment Take?

Following an initial consultation, treatments typically take less than 30 minutes. You may be given a topical anesthetic to numb the injection area. In most cases, the filler contains an anesthetic called Lidocaine. Before the numbing agent begins to work, you may feel a pinch and a burn. Some patients experience minimal bruising and swelling that subsides over a few days.

What Results Will I See?

The single most important factor is getting the best result is the experience of the person injecting you. Dr. Dohner has over 19 years of injection experience in all areas of the face with all of the fillers. This gives you the greatest degree of confidence in getting the result you want.

In most cases, you will experience a visible change immediately following your treatment. It’s recommended to wait up to 14 days to see the full results. Results are dependent on individual treatment:

  • Hyaluronic Acids are recommended to first-time filler patients and last 6-24 months depending on the area of the face treated.
  • Synthetic fillers are not absorbed by the body and can last several years.
  • RADIESSE® has shown lasting results for up to 18 months.
  • Sculptra® can last 3 years or more.
  • Bellafill® has been known to last 5 years or more.

Choosing the right treatment is important before you commit to results that could last for years.

Is There Any Downtime?

You are able to return to your normal activities immediately following treatment. You may be asked to take a day off from exercise and other strenuous activities.
