What is Psoriasis?
Psoriasis is a group of autoimmune conditions that cause T cells to attack your skin. This attack triggers your skin cells to divide more quickly, pushing new cells to the surface in a few days instead of weeks. In the most common type, plaque psoriasis, the excess skin cells build up into thick, scaly plaques. Symptoms of other types can include pigmentation changes, blisters, and hair loss.Â
While psoriasis has a strong genetic component, some people develop psoriasis for no known reason. While plaque psoriasis is the most common, you may have another type on your scalp, nails, or in folds of skin.
