Preventing sunspots means avoiding overexposure to the sun. Dr. Dohner recommends that wear sunscreen and cover up when going in the sun. However, that will not erase sunspots that have already appeared. Laser treatments are a fast and safe way to lighten and erase the spots.
The Pico Laser and Excel® V Laser are both excellent options for people who have specific age spot areas they want to treat. This technology not only targets the noticeable pigment, but it also breaks up the pigment sitting under the surface. There is minimal downtime with these lasers; people are usually red for 2-4 hours following treatment. Removing sunspots can require more than one treatment.
Results depend on the age spot treatment you select, but they usually include improvement and reduction in the appearance of age spots, clearer skin tone and texture, and younger-looking skin.
There is little to no downtime when it comes to laser treatments. Once you’ve been treated for age spots, it’s crucial that you keep the treated area out of the sun. We recommend you invest in skincare products with SPF and sunscreen to wear when you’re going outside.
