Neurotoxin injectables are a popular treatment option for men and women looking to reverse the signs of aging. The injectables offered by New York Skin & Vein Center have been FDA-approved to treat the fine lines and wrinkles caused by everyday facial movements. Understanding the similarities and differences can help get you started in the right direction towards determining what’s right for you. Let’s take a closer look.
How Are Botox® and Xeomin® Similar?
Depending on your specific goals, one treatment may be better suited for you than another. The choice between Botox® and Xeomin® should be left to the experienced injectors at New York Skin & Vein Center. Our injector specialists have the skill and knowledge necessary to provide recommendations that will give you an optimal outcome.
Treatment Time & Dosage
Treatments for both Botox® and Xeomin® take less than 15-minutes and begin with an in-office consultation with Dr. Dohner or one of our experienced injection nurses. Treatments are dosed similarly – one unit of Botox® has the same strength as one unit of Xeomin®.
Downtime
Wrinkle relaxers are non-surgical and don’t require anesthesia, allowing patients to resume normal activities or return to work immediately. It is recommended that you avoid exercising, blood-thinning medications, and rubbing the treated areas for four hours after a treatment.
Results
The youthful results of Botox® and Xeomin® are temporary, typically lasting 3 to 4 months. The effects begin to wear off at this time, allowing nerve impulses to reach the muscle again, causing contractions. Maintenance treatments are required to maintain the results over time.
How Do Botox® and Xeomin® Differ?
Treatment Areas
Smiling, frowning, squinting, and lifting your eyes are the most common repetitive muscle contractions we perform daily.
Both injectables can correct the following symptoms of aging:
- Frown lines (double lines between the brows)
- Smile lines (around the mouth)
- Crow’s feet (lateral lines around the eyes)
Botox® is also useful for treating forehead lines, dimpled chins, marionette lines, bunny lines (besides the nose), and facial asymmetry. Xeomin® has not been studied for treating these additional areas of the face.
Onset of Results
The effects of Xeomin® appear around four days after treatment, whereas Botox® results typically require only 2-3 days. With each treatment, you will notice smoothing of the lines and a more youthful appearance emerging for up to two weeks.
