Protecting your skin from sun damage requires a level of diligence that many of us lack, especially in our youth. Over time, sun damage can cause age spots. Hyperpigmentation has many causes, including sun exposure. Your NYSVC provider will develop a treatment plan to address your pigmentation issues.
What Causes Hyperpigmentation and Age Spots?
Hyperpigmentation and brown spots develop due to excess melanin production in areas of the skin. Melanin, the pigment that contributes to the color of your hair and skin, can be overproduced in response to many factors.
Age spots, also called sun spots, form in response to sun exposure. They often look like flat brown patches on sun-exposed areas like the face, chest, arms, and hands. Hyperpigmentation can occur in response to acne breakouts, genetics, and hormone changes.
