Will Sculptra® Smooth Out Facial Wrinkles?

What is Sculptra®?

Sculptra® is a type of long-lasting dermal filler for the face and body. Unlike fillers like Juvederm®, which uses hyaluronic acid, Sculptra® uses poly-L-lactic acid. This material does more than just add volume: it triggers new collagen production and acts as a scaffold for this collagen to lift and smooth your skin. Along with facial wrinkles, Sculptra® is often used to add volume in areas like the buttocks.

Will Sculptra® Smooth Out Facial Wrinkles?

Sculptra® excels at smoothing a range of facial wrinkles. It works especially well for deep wrinkles such as hollow temples and cheeks. It can also treat a range of other wrinkles as well as add volume to the jawline, marionettes and other areas that need a boost.

When injected into deep lines and wrinkles, Sculptra® triggers cells deep in your skin to produce more collagen. This new collagen adds volume and firmness. Since your body adds this volume itself, results look naturally smooth and youthful. They also last longer than other dermal fillers that the body metabolizes within months.

I like to think of Sculptra as the 401K for your face: don’t look for immediate results but trust that your face will see the benefits several months after the treatment.

Is There Any Downtime After Sculptra®?

Sculptra® injections usually take less than half an hour and require no downtime. Some people have minor swelling, bruising, or soreness in the injection area that fades within a few days. These effects are similar to those that occur with most injectables and should not prevent you from returning to work or other activities.

What Results Will I See With Sculptra®?

You may see increased fullness and a decrease in facial wrinkles immediately after treatment due to the volume of fluid added. That dissipates overnight but then you start to see the results slowly over months. Full results take several months to develop as your body produces more collagen. Many people like the gradual development of Sculptra® results since it prevents any abrupt changes in your appearance.

Hyaluronic fillers like Juvederm® usually last about a year. Sculptra® results can last two years or more. This extended time means fewer injections and more time enjoying your results. You can help your Sculptra® results last longer by protecting your skin from collagen-damaging sun exposure and using quality skincare products that support collagen development.

Most patients will need one vial of Sculptra for every decade of life. This means that if you are 60 years old then you will need a total of 6 vials spread out over 3 treatments. Then we recommend one vial per year to maintain the benefit.

Am I a Good Candidate for Sculptra®?

Almost anyone with facial wrinkles makes a good candidate for Sculptra®. Ideal candidates have reasonable expectations and are seeking a longer-lasting solution to their lines, wrinkles, or volume loss. You should not receive any injectables if you have an infection or injury in the treatment area.
